Sustainable cooperation with the province of South Holland and the municipality of The Hague

On Friday, February 9, 2024, we not only celebrated the launch of SeaSEC at Campus@Sea, but also the ratification of a sustainable collaboration between Campus@Sea, the province of South Holland and the municipality of The Hague.

This commitment has its origins in the joint commitment of the municipality of The Hague and the province of South Holland in 2020 for the establishment of Campus@Sea as an innovative field lab in the port of Scheveningen The signing of this agreement forms a firm basis for a long-term collaboration, with Campus@Sea taking on a facilitating pioneering role.

This close cooperation stems from the recognition that the use of the North Sea in the framework of the Dutch food, energy and climate transition requires that various functions, such as renewable offshore power generation, fisheries, aquaculture, ecology and shipping, come together responsibly.

Meindert Stolk, Deputy Economy and Innovation: “A physical Fieldlab is of great importance not only for bringing together business, education, research institutions and governments, but also to stimulate innovation and develop a new economy Campus@Sea is a good example of this. It connects various initiatives and ensures that joint innovations have an opportunity to develop further. The North Sea plays an important role in our energy transition, for example, but it is also a busy area. We must deal with this carefully!”.

Campus@Sea acts as a connecting link in this multiple use of space, requiring active steering from local and regional policy, the ambition to promote innovation and attract economic activities in the blue economy is the driving force behind the joint efforts of Campus@Sea, the municipality of The Hague and the province of South Holland.
