SDG 13: Climate Action

On February 13, we will be commemorating SDG 13: Climate Action. This Sustainable Development Goal focuses on taking measures to combat climate change and adapt to its consequences. For coastal countries like the Netherlands, with an intensively used North Sea, this challenge is directly linked to how we generate energy, protect nature, and organize space at sea.

From ambition to action at sea
Climate action requires more than policy goals and plans. It requires practical experience, collaboration, and the ability to test new solutions under realistic conditions. Major societal challenges converge at sea: the energy transition, biodiversity, food production, safety, and digitalization. This makes the North Sea a key area for SDG 13.

The role of Campus@Sea
At Campus@Sea, we work daily to accelerate climate action around the North Sea. We do this through a broad approach that combines innovation, talent, and collaboration.

In our Maritime Testing Ground and Offshore Test Site, innovations are tested under real-world North Sea conditions. Think of offshore renewable energy, nature-inclusive solutions, food from the sea, and remote and autonomous systems. By testing in practice, technologies can be improved, validated, and scaled up more quickly.

The energy transition also requires people. That’s why we invest in involving and training young people, students, and young professionals. By introducing them to the blue economy and current challenges at sea, we contribute to a new generation working on climate solutions.

Campus@Sea is a meeting place where companies, knowledge institutions, and governments come together. In this community, we share knowledge, learn from each other’s experiences, and collaborate on solutions that fit within a heavily used North Sea. This collaboration is essential for making climate action effective and scalable.

Smart, versatile, and sustainable
Everything we do is guided by one principle: smart, versatile, and sustainable use of the North Sea. By combining functions, using space efficiently, and carefully testing innovations, we contribute to a climate-resilient future for the sea and society.

SDG 13 reminds us that climate action can only succeed if ideas are developed beyond the lab. At Campus@Sea, we bring those ideas closer to impact, step by step.
