Peter Scheijgrond recently had the unique opportunity to represent Campus@Sea during a visit to some of the most powerful wave and tidal test sites in Wales.
“I am grateful for the warm welcome I received from the Marine Energy Test Area (META) team. Saul Young, the operational manager at META, gave an overview of the activities at the eight test sites they manage. We discussed opportunities for collaboration with other test sites across Europe within the framework of International Waters and the SEAWORTHY partnership.
Together with Stephen Thompson, the Project Delivery Manager at META, I was given a tour of several test sites. To top it all off, we boarded a RIB boat to see the unforgettable Ramsey Sound. We sailed across the tidal currents and I couldn’t help but marvel at the immense power of nature.
This experience reaffirmed my belief in the crucial role that test sites play in our energy transition, which is certainly taking place at sea. Many thanks to Marine Energy Wales for this invaluable visit. Armed with new insights and contacts, I look forward to sharing the opportunities with Campus@Sea and the SEAWORTHY partnership and exploring potential collaborations.
